Early musical ensemble Musicke in the Ayre are a vocal quartet made up of Rosalind Keefe, Helen Hill, Phil Neville, Chris Hall (voices) and Din Ghani (lute)

Today Musicke in the Ayre present songs for one to four voices based on poetry written by prominent persons from the courts of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I.

Songs to the lute were in fashion at the beginning of the 17th century: this is music that is just as delightful and appealing now as it was then. Having texts by courtier poets, supplemented by snippets of historical context, helps to animate the events and personalities of this fascinating period.

Do come and join us – you can enjoy some super music, meet your friends as well as maybe making new ones.

Advance tickets are just £3.50 (plus booking fee) Please note that on the door they cost £4,

And our Whistle Stop Café will be open if you fancy a nice cup of tea (or coffee) and Sasha’s cakes are more than delicious – what a lovely way to spend an afternoon. There will be a selection of tables and chairs set out in the hall for you to choose from on arrival.

Musicke in the Ayre

Musicke in the Ayre was formed by lutenist/luthier Din Ghani with a group of friends to explore and perform the lute song repertoire and other 16th/17th century music with a flexible line-up of voices, lutes and allied instruments.
