Asha Puthli
With a unique silken, ethereal soprano and a taste for boundary-pushing, legendary artist Asha Puthli is one of the most successful vocalists to come out of India. From Bombay, to New York, London, Germany, Italy and space, this trailblazing pioneer has forged a path through 60s psych, free-jazz, funk, soul, pop, rock, electronic dance music, and disco. A muse to Andy Warhol, a Studio 54 legend, and fashion icon, she has been influencing popular culture since its inception and has collaborated with or shared the stage with names such as Alice Coltrane, Roy Ayers, Grace Jones, Bill Laswell, Patti Smith, Nina Hagen, Don Cherry, and Django Reinhardt, Ornette Coleman, and more recently Jitwam and Raveena. The last few years have seen a huge resurgence in Asha’s status as a highly influential artist as she’s finally taken her rightful place in the pantheon of jazz and disco legends and fusion innovators.
