Also Appearing

Goat (Sweden)

With an unfettered sound influenced by everything from Afro-beat to Anatolian funk, Goat are an experimental psychedelic rock band based out of Gothenburg, Sweden. The band have received acclaim for their explosive, energetic performances, during which they don elaborate masks and costumes, as well as their albums, including the aptly named 2012 debut World Music, which gathered sounds from around the globe in a swirling mix of sound. Records that followed saw the band tweaking the template for the lush, acoustic-based Requiem (2016) and on 2022's Oh Death taking a maximalist, anything goes approach to psychedelia that's fuzzy, heavy, and free flowing all at once.

Nadine Shah

British born by way of Norweigan and Pakistani parentage, Nadine Shah is a vocalist/pianist from a small North East town called Whitburn over looking the waves and jagged rocks of the North Sea. Having earned an early reputation for that uniquely rich, soulful voice; Nadine released her debut album Love Your Dum and Mad to critical acclaim in 2013 and her 2017 third album Holiday Destination made the shortlist of the 2018 Mercury Album Prize award.

W.H. Lung

While W.H. Lung’s name might suggest a nod to the likes of WH Auden and similarly austere literary figures, it actually comes from a Chinese supermarket in their native Manchester. This deliberate blurring of high and low culture is part of the appeal of the enigmatic three-piece (Joseph E on vocals/synths, Tom S on guitar and Tom P on bass), their songs juxtaposing simplicity with free-ranging experimentation. But even more key is their ability to seamlessly meld genres – krautrock, post-punk and synthpop, most prominently – to create songs that are fresh and exciting yet familiar-sounding and accessible.

GONG

From its beginnings in a French commune in 1967, through the Virgin Records years, mismanagement, court cases, break-ups and rejoining, deaths and rebirths – GONG has always been a continuous thread of beautiful, dangerous and extraordinary music. The current holders of the flame have come together over the last seven years; sinuous bass player Dave Sturt joined just as the album 2032 was shown to the world; Ian ‘Eastwinds’ East was the next to blow in through the portal; Fabio Golfetti brought his guitars from Brazil (after working with Daevid for many years); Kavus Torabi appeared to Daevid in a vision; Cheb Nettles just sort of turned up. GONG's musically diverse world includes shades of psychedelia, space rock, jazz, avant-garde, krautrock and surreal soundscapes.
