Formed following a chance musical encounter in Amsterdam, this special quartet combines the talents of one of the UK’s top Jazz bassists with one of the rising stars of European jazz.

Bassist Arnie Somogyi is well-known to jazz audiences through his work with some of the stars of the British and international scene.

A band leader in his own right he has performed frequently at world-famous jazz club, Ronnie Scott’s and at festivals throughout the world with major artists including the Mingus

Big Band, Bobby Hutcherson, Art Farmer, James Moody, Seamus Blake and Annie Ross, as well as international stars Tom Jones, Charlie Watts and Amy Winehouse and British Jazz legends such as Stan Tracey and Kenny Wheeler

His music has featured on radio, television and in films and he has been nominated for both

BBC Radio 3 and Parliamentary Jazz Awards and released 4 critically acclaimed albums as a leader.

Tenor saxophonist Gideon Tazelaar grew up in the Netherlands, where he developed his musical skills by playing with saxophonist Benjamin Herman and drummer John Engels from a young age.

A prodigious talent, he was admitted to the Bachelor’s degree programme at Amsterdam Conservatoire at the age of just 14.

In 2017 he moved to New York City, where he studied at the Juilliard School of Music and played with and was mentored by George Coleman and Wynton Marsalis.

He currently spends time between his native Amsterdam and New York, where he performs as a sideman with some of the biggest names in jazz including Wynton Marsalis, Dr Lonnie Smith, Eric Alexander and Dick Oatts.

Mark Edwards on Piano is, by common consent, a‘polymath’ musician of the highest standard who has performed and recorded with many elite international artists and musicians from across the musical panorama. For the last 10 years he has toured the world as pianist for Katie Melua.

In jazz he has worked with top U.K. and U.S. names, including Johnny Dankworth, Bobby Wellins, Scott Hamilton and Ken Peplowski.

Drummer Matthew Holmes is one of the rising stars of the UK jazz scene. Winner of the Tony Levin Drum Prize (2019) he has performed extensively around the country with leading artists including Soweto Kinch, Alex Hitchcock, Alina Bzhezhinska, Tony Kofi, Norma Winstone and Nikki Iles.

Arnie began playing double bass at the age of 19 and has been on the British jazz scene ever since. Expect a blend of British and Hungarian jazz.
